چکیده

The goal of this study was to determine whether calcium ion, (one of the electrolytes released after plant cell attack), may have a direct e€ect on fungal growth and chemistry of the fungal cell wall. B. cinerea was grown on Richard's solution containing di€erent amounts of CaCl2, and the cell walls were extracted from the mycelium after 7 days of growth. Mineral, neutral and aminosugar, protein and uronic acid contents were determined. At 1 g lÿ1 CaCl2, only the aminosugar content increased. At 2 g lÿ1 CaCl2, neutral sugar synthesis was reduced, whereas the uronic acid content increased. For higher CaCl2 concentrations, the calcium ion content of the cell wall increased, resulting in reduced protein and neutral sugar contents. Meanwhile, the cell wall proportion of the mycelia increased on a dry weight basis due to an increase in uronic acid, Ca, P, Na and neutral sugar contents of the cell wall with increasing CaCl2 in the media. The resulting thickening of the fungal cell wall caused by calcium ion may be an important factor in the host-pathogen relationship. # 1999 Elsevier Science Ltd. All rights reserved.

Variability of Three Isolates of Botrytis cinerea Affects the Inhibitory Effects of Calcium on this Fungus.

ABSTRACT Botrytis cinerea is an economically important pathogen. Epidemiological studies are difficult because of the genetic variability within this species. The objectives of this work were to study the variability and to compare the inhibitory effects of Ca on three isolates of B. cinerea from decayed apple (B) and grape (C and C77:4). Among these isolates, B had the least radial growth but ...

Synthesis of linear Geranylphenols and their effect on mycelial growth of plant pathogen Botrytis cinerea.

Natural geranyl compounds are known to exhibit important biological activities. In this work a series of geranylphenols were synthesized to evaluate their effect on the mycelial growth of Botrytis cinerea. Geranyl derivatives were synthesized by direct geranylation reactions between the corresponding phenol derivatives and geraniol, using BF3.OEt2 as catalyst and AgNO3 as secondary catalyst. Pr...

Effects of Two Salts Compounds on Mycelial Growth, Sporulation, and Spore Germination of Six Isolates of Botrytis cinerea in the Western North of Algeria

Six isolates of Botrytis cinerea were isolated from leaves and stems of different tomato varieties taken from four areas in the northwest of Algeria where tomato is mostly grown in greenhouses and high tunnels. The purpose of this research was to determine the effect of two salts, NaCl and CaCl2, on three stages of Botrytis cinerea's life cycle. All isolates tested were stimulated in 50 to 150 ...

Antifungal Effect of Polygodial on Botrytis cinerea, a Fungal Pathogen Affecting Table Grapes

The antifungal activity of polygodial, a secondary metabolite extracted from Canelo, on mycelial growth of different Botrytis cinerea isolates has been evaluated. The results show that polygodial affects growth of normal and resistant isolates of B. cinerea with EC50 values ranging between 117 and 175 ppm. In addition, polygodial markedly decreases the germination of B. cinerea, i.e., after six...
